Clonakilla Viognier 2024

“2024 is a beautiful vintage. Good spring rain, warm summer days, cool nights and a glorious early autumn. The grapes came in beautifully ripe and full of flavour. Barrel fermented with a year on lees in a combination French demi-muids and puncheons, this Viognier is a wonderfully aromatic, richly textured wine. Drink now or cellar for up to 10 years.” – Tim Kirk, Clonakilla Wines.

“The label has had a minor tweak (not pictured here) and it’s now called Small Batch. “Citrus blossoms, pears, apricot kernels…awash with stoney, mineral character”. This is fragrant and accessible to start but then turns serious, salty, stony and dry through the finish. It also pushes long. Citrus blossoms, pears, apricot kernels and brine characters eventual evolve into a finish that’s awash with stoney, minerally character – though fragrant fruit notes keep pushing on too. Give this another year or two in bottle and it will be terrific.” – Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
