Penfolds Superblend 802.B Cabernet Shiraz Magnum 1.5lt
One Superblend. Two Interpretations. Curiosity and experimentation delivers two new wines made from parcels destined for Penfolds flagships.
Carefully selected from the coveted 2018 South Australian vintage, the wines represent two unique interpretations of the iconic Australian blend of cabernet sauvignon and shiraz. 802.B varietal composition is close to evenly split with cabernet sauvignon contributing 55% and shiraz 45% of the blend respectively. The components were married immediately post vintage, completing 19 months maturation as a blend in French oak hogsheads.
This wine will reward careful cellaring for several decades. An intriguing counterpoint to its American oak sibling.

“This is easily the pick of the two new, limited-release ‘Superblend’ wines from 2018 with complex spiced dark-berry and plum aromas. Graphite and cedary oak, too. Nothing dominates this wine. The palate is layered and seamless and carries pure and intense fruit flavors so long. This is on the mark. A blend of 55% cabernet sauvignon and 45% shiraz that was blended after fermentation, then matured for 19 months in French-oak hogsheads (54% new and 46% 1-year-old). Drink or hold.” – 98 points, Nick Stock, James Suckling
