Wolf Blass Platinum Label Shiraz 2009

Platinum Label Shiraz was first created from the 1998 vintage to honour Australia’s most iconic grape variety, Shiraz, and the region Wolf Blass call their home, the Barossa. This marriage of region and variety is one of long-standing excellence, so Wolf Blass set out to create the ultimate wine to express both region and variety, capturing the very essence of Barossa Shiraz.

The Medlands Estate, Barossa Valley enjoys a unique terroir, growing wines with purity of fruit, elegance, tight structure and impeccable balance. The vineyard slopes gently towards the North Para River at an altitude of about 260m above sea level, with soils ranging from loamy sands over light clays to sandy loams over medium clays. The climate is Continental, with a wide daily temperature fluctuation, good sunshine and light, and low rainfall and humidity.

Intense, lifted aromas of rich blueberry, blackberry and loganberry layered with complexing elements of dark chocolate, coffee-bean, underlying hints of warm spice, and restrained but present fragrant oak.

Complex, layered flavours continue on the palate, led by intense, mouth-watering blueberry coulis and supported by freshly ground coffee, dark chocolate and spicy oak. The palate structure displays seamless line, length and presence. It is concentrated, rich and velvety with a perfect balance of fruit, oak, acidity and tremendously complex tannins which are at once silky, mouth-filling and lingering.
