Mount Majura Graciano 2021
There is some similarity in climate between Canberra and leading Spanish wine regions, which led to planting Tempranillo and then Graciano.
Graciano is a minor variety in Spain, considered to be of very high quality and used in blends for its good acidity. In their vineyard it is fastidious with regards micronutrients, and needs a lot of crop thinning.
It is very late ripening and a good example of the concept that the most distinctive wines are made on the margin of ripeness.
"A vibrant purple-red hue entices, so too violets, squishy raspberry and the strong black-pepper aromas. The palate is super-tight and lean, with a ball of bright juicy, tangy fruit studded with pink peppercorns and the grainy tannins no match to the piercing acidity. The palate needs some buffering as a result and – while it should fill out in time – it's best matched with hearty fare if you want to enjoy it young." – 90 points (Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion).
