Lark Hill Gruner Veltiner 2021

Lark Hill was farmed using organic practices from inception in 1978, until a ‘lightbulb’ moment in 2003 when they attended a conference on Biodynamic farming. After touring Biodynamic vineyards, tasting Biodynamic wines and meeting luminaries of the industry, they dove head-first into the method. Lark Hill are certified by NASAA (from 2006 onwards) as they believe that integrity is key to ‘talking the talk’ with how they farm their vines and make their wine.
Vintage 2017 was a treat; lots of soil moisture, a steady Summer and a cool, long Autumn. The vines revelled in this luxury, producing an abundance of stunning fruit with great balance and vibrance.
The juice was fermented using native yeasts in older french oak barrels (7+ years) to give funkiness, texture and build complexity, without imparting oak character.
As a young wine this shows exotic melon and fig aromas, a light and taut palate and a hint of texture to match with food. It will continue to improve over some years, gaining depth, complexity and the typical Gruner-driven spice characters of white pepper, parsnip and fresh herbs.
