Cascina Fontana Barolo 2013
An ageworthy and complex wine that defies the senses and the odds. Normally one would have to spend stratospheric dollars to acquire a wine of this caliber but value comes in all shapes and forms, in this case. Neighbors and cousins to the great Bartolo Mascarello, Mario Fontana absolutely knocks it out of the park with his Barolo 2013. Taking the best parts of the vintage and using it to his advantage, he somehow maintains a firm structured core over a wealth of supple, gorgeous red and black fruits, raspberry, baking spices, mint, black truffles and licorice. This wine is wide open, super long, super complex and super value! Enjoy now through 2030.

Additional details
Rich fragrances of roses, liquorice, and spices. Complex and harmonious on the palate, with the right balance between fruit, tannin and acidity. This is a complex and austere wine that is incredibly rich in every way. Though the colour is never deep, the wine has great profundity and concentration with a balance of tannin and acidity that, initially, gives it a character that is hard, unrevealing, even austere. With age, Barolo gains in smoothness while the primary fruit and fermentation aromas give way to a more complex bouquet of liquorice, tar, roses and a host of other sensations. Cascina Fontana Barolo has great persistence and a very long finish.
