Petaluma Evens Vineyard Cabernet Merlot 2015
Petaluma’s Evens Vineyard in the heart of the Coonawarra had a wonderful wet winter in 2014. Spring and summer were then terribly dry. The season was perked up early in 2015 by a tropical in-feed from two northern Australian cyclones, which evebtually dropped 25mm of rain onto the vineyard.
The fully ripe fruit was hand-picked in beautiful autumn sunshine, with Merlot on the 19th of March, followed by Cabernet on the 24th and 25th.
Fermented on skins for two weeks after cold soaking, the pressed wines were gravity fed to new French oak barrels in mid April, where they matured for twenty months.
